Privacy

Last updated 18 September 2026.

This is a pre-launch privacy notice, written by GoodTrades’ operator and not yet reviewed by a solicitor. Where we have not built something — automatic deletion, for instance — this notice says so rather than promising it.

What we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who we are

GoodTrades is run by an individual operator trading as GoodTrades ahead of incorporation. We have not yet added a company registration number or a registered office address to this notice — that is a gap the owner needs to fill in, not an oversight in how this page was written.

Email hello@goodtrades.co.uk about anything on this page.

What we collect

What we hold depends on which side of the marketplace you use.

We do not collect or store any card or bank details. Card payment is not switched on yet: a tradesperson topping up credit does it by emailing or ringing us, and we add it by hand.

Why we collect it

Running the introduction between you and a tradesperson — posting your job, matching it, handing your details to whoever pays to take it — is what lawyers call performance of a contract: we cannot do the thing you asked for without it.

Keeping the security log is a legitimate interest: it costs you nothing and it protects everyone using the site from fraud and abuse.

We send no marketing, by email or otherwise — nothing is wired up to do it — so there is nothing to ask your consent for yet.

Who sees it, and when

This is the most important thing on this page, so we are stating it as plainly as we can.

The moment a tradesperson pays to take your job, we hand them your name, phone number and email address, along with your postcode and the description you wrote. There is no approval step and no delay: it can happen within minutes of you posting, at any hour, and the trade may ring you the same day.

At most 3 trades can take the same job, so at most 3 people ever get your details this way. If your job is urgent, the first trade to take it has it to themselves for 20 minutes before anyone else can buy it, so you may hear from only one person rather than three.

Nobody sees your details before a trade has paid for that specific job. We do not sell your details, and we do not pass them to anyone for marketing.

If you leave a review, we publish your first name and the first part of your postcode next to it — the "outward code", for example SW16. We never publish your full postcode, address, phone number or email. The tradesperson you reviewed can reply publicly underneath it.

How long we keep it

We have not built a way to delete data automatically yet, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. In practice, your details stay in our database until you ask us to remove them, or until we do it by hand. If you want your data gone, email hello@goodtrades.co.uk with "delete my data" and your account email or job reference, and we will do it manually.

A published review is a public record about a piece of work, so removing your name from one is a different question from removing the review itself. We do not take a review down for being unflattering, but we will talk to you about what is reasonable if you ask.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:

Email hello@goodtrades.co.uk for any of these. We handle all of them by hand right now, so tell us plainly what you want and we will confirm once it is done.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. You do not need to talk to us first if you would rather not.

Cookies

We set two cookies: one to keep you signed in, and one — only if you tick "keep me signed in" — to sign you back in automatically later. Both are strictly necessary for the site to work, which is why we do not run a cookie banner. See our Cookies notice for the detail. We use no advertising or analytics cookies, and no third-party tracking runs on this site.

Security

Passwords are never stored as text we could read: we hash them with a standard industry algorithm, and we cannot see your password once you have set it.

We keep a security log of sensitive actions with a timestamp, an IP address and a browser string, kept to investigate fraud and abuse rather than to watch what you do day to day.

Changes to this notice

We will update this page as we build the things it currently admits are missing. Check the date at the top; we will not backdate a change.
