Paid £340 to have a patch of crumbling render and a damp patch by the kitchen window fixed. She said upfront she'd check how deep the damp had spread with a moisture meter before quoting, but never actually used one - just said she'd 'eyeballed it' as dry enough. Left cutting-back dust on the windowsill and the path that I had to clean up myself. Four days later the damp shadow is already coming back through in exactly the same spot, so I don't think the underlying problem was actually dealt with, just plastered over. To be fair, when I raised it she was upfront and apologetic and has offered to come back and redo it properly at no extra charge - I haven't taken her up on that yet.

Isla's right and I won't dispute any of it. I said I'd use a moisture meter and didn't, and I should have been straight with her rather than guessing it was dry. That's why the damp has come back - the wall wasn't actually ready to be re-rendered. I also should have cleared the dust before I left. My offer stands: I'll come back, meter it properly, let it dry out as long as it needs, then re-render, and clean up properly - no extra charge. Isla, message me whenever suits.
