3.0 — Roofer

Rachel, NE1 · 8 days ago · Posted the job here · Hired them

Mixed but overall okay. The actual roofing work was sound — Darren re-bedded the slipped ridge tiles, re-pointed along the ridge line and traced the leak, and the damp patch above the bay window has stayed dry through the rain since, so the main problem is fixed. The downsides: he turned up over an hour late on the day without much warning, and the final bill came in a fair bit above the written quote once he said the ridge needed more mortar than expected. He was pleasant enough and explained the extra, but I'd have appreciated a heads-up before the cost went up. Job done, just not the smoothest.

Whitfield Property Maintenance Ltd replied

Thank you for the fair and honest review, Rachel, and I'm glad the leak has stayed dry. You're right on both counts. I was over an hour late and should have phoned ahead to warn you — that's on me. And I should have stopped to flag the extra mortar and the added cost before carrying on, rather than explaining it after. In future I'll always ring about any delay and get your go-ahead on any change to the quoted price before doing the work. Apologies for the bother, and thanks for having us. — Darren

4.7 — Plasterer / Renderer

Darren came out to measure up the two artexed bedroom ceilings and talked me through the options clearly — he recommended over-boarding rather than scraping given the age of the artex, which put my mind at ease. He turned up on time, was easy to talk to and sent a tidy written quote the same evening. The price seemed fair, though I'm still gathering a couple of other quotes before I decide. No complaints at all with how he dealt with me.

Whitfield Property Maintenance Ltd replied

Thanks Rachel, much appreciated. Over-boarding really is the tidier route with older artex, so I'm glad that made sense. Absolutely no pressure at all — take your time comparing quotes, that's exactly the sensible thing to do. Ours stands whenever you're ready, and I'm happy to answer any questions in the meantime. — Darren

5.0 — Electrician

Rachel, LS1 · 8 days ago · Posted the job here · Hired them

Darren replaced our old rewireable fuse board with a new dual-RCD consumer unit and everything was spot on. He explained what he was doing, added the main bonding to the gas and water while he was here, tested every circuit and left me the Electrical Installation Certificate. Turned up exactly when he said, worked cleanly and hoovered up after himself, and the final price matched the written quote. Would happily have him back.

Whitfield Property Maintenance Ltd replied

Thank you Rachel, that's really kind of you to say. It was a pleasure — glad the new consumer unit and certificate have set your mind at rest, and I'm pleased we could sort the main bonding while we were there. If you ever need anything electrical in future, just give us a shout. — Darren
